ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET…THE MYELOMA CHALLENGE

I'm 42 years old, (was 39 when life went somewhat awry) with no history of illness, Ironman finisher who has been diagnosed with myeloma. Did not see this coming. This blog summarises my journey from unexpected diagnosis through the treatment path. My aim is to use myeloma as a catalyst for living a better, more fulfilling life and documenting the changes I am making in all aspects of my family and work commitments.

Heading in the right direction

Its only a small positive but a positive non the less!

I couldn’t wait until the 15th so put my impatience to good use, badgered the hospital and found out my blood results today.

Drop from 74 to 68.

Clearly there are many more hurdles to jump but this is a good indication that the drugs do appear to work.

There may not be a cure but, this is a sign that there is a treatment that works for me and can get this in check.

I can’t allow myself to get too excited given the journey ahead but this is as good a piece of news as I have had since diagnosis. I’ll raise a lemonade to that!

I am sure you are aware that it will take time (weeks to months) for the paraprotein levels to fall appreciably even if the myelomas secreting them were completely wiped out.
